To the substantial conservation of the building, by now consolidated in the collective imaginary, and the confirmation of its original function as a cinema (with the enhancements permitted by modern technology) are added a series of new functional spaces for parallel cultural activities. To the redundant models followed by so much contemporary architecture, and more in general perhaps to the models of opulence and ostentation, a new sense of rigour is opposed, which the architecture carries as a message that reaches beyond the limits of the discipline. The general impression is that of an organism that results from a sought-after simplicity, in which, paraphrasing Donald Judd “(…) simple is the opposite of complicated, but not of complex.”
