In northern Sinis there is an area with abandoned sandstone quarries, currently illegally used as a dump, with a tendency for this use to become enrooted. The rehabilitation of the abandoned sandstone quarries of Su Cuccuru Mannu to such an innovative function is aimed, on the cultural level, to a “rescue” of this site, to a re-appropriation and sublimation of its spaces: from its current condition of decay, of a dump, to that of an expression, through sounds, music, as well as the figurative arts, of environmental sensitivity. It is in this sense that spaces both apparently and truly in decay, rigid and structurally linked to their original purpose, even in its appearance, offer on the contrary, shifting the interpretative point of view, a paradoxical, unexpected, and even advantageous adaptability, elasticity, plasticity: their inherent nature as impressive cavities, today full of garbage and waste, suggests a widely flexible and strongly evocative programme of transformation.
