The MITI – Museum of Innovation and Industrial Technology, is housed inside the Historical Workshops of the Istituto Industriale “Montani” in Fermo. The aim of the museum is that of telling the story of the prestigious industrial institute from its creation in the 19th century to our days, valorising the tight link between school (knowledge) and factory (know-how) that has characterised, and still does, the educational process carried out by this institution. In an exhibition path aimed at valorising the historical machinery of the institute and the transmission of a centuries-old technological knowledge, the visitor is involved in a journey of discovery through interactive and educational devices. The heart of the museum is the great central space, the Ernest Hallié hall, at the place where the old foundry used to stand, where, next to the furnaces, are exhibited the historical machines (trip hammer, calander, punch press, lathe, milling and hobbing machines) used by the students in the workshops for learning the “know-how”. The hall includes six interactive stations which allow the visitor to understand the use of the machines and their evolution.
