The city as a signifying environment

The destiny of the contemporary city is spun somewhere between the opposed polarities of the loss of self in the artificial naturalisation of reality that is expressed as the “asphalt jungle”, the “forest of skyscrapers”, or the “tide of cement”, and that of the re-foundation of the self as the retracing of a boundary of equipment and facilities surrounding like new walls the historic nucleus, set in true nature, as an act of anthropic re-identification of space for the initiation of a process of neo-urbanisation of the environment. If the jungle that has covered the planet is made of asphalt, a city of leaves can grow in the middle of it.
